Great fusion jazz here !! I knew a couple of songs but did not have any name to put it on

Now I have, thanks to you "Blog of the Blog "!!

Anything more from Mr Mac Ghie ?

PS. I had some time this past month to dig into artists I knew but without knowing they did funky stuff

- Art Blakey (Reflection in Blue 1978)

- Cannonball Adderley (his George Duke's years but also Country Preacher feat. Joe Zawinul 1969)

- French drummer André Ceccarelli CCPP 1975

- French producer JC Pierric (inc. Les Wanted 1977)

- Marco di Marco. Check "I mei ricordi" from AT the Livin Room 1973. Bought on Itunes

- I finished my Tribe focus. I can conclude that there are clearly deep and funky songs but above all I found too many horns crying like in Miles "fuckin' guitar" period.

- I also finished my Isao Suzuki period. WOW! The Thing, Blue City, Black Orpheus 1976 track "Angel Eyes ".

- Also completed Freddie Hubbard fusion years. I knew Backlash LP could be good. It is as a matter of fact ! Track Echoes of Blues; what a sound !

- Same with Ahmad Jamal. I now have more or less 14 LPs. What a sound again. Live or not, his music sounds so clear, so smooth and sometimes funky. But it is all about how he sounds really.I was amused by the double recording made out of his Montreux 1971 show. Free Flight was only an excerpt of the concert. There are some additional songs on Outertimeinnerspace. Funny things is that I left this vinyl in the rooftop of grandma's house. Gotta grab it now before the mouses !!

- Same with Grant Green. It is amazing the numbers of track I knew whithout knowing it was him. LPs shades of green of course, all his live Mozzambique... But above all, 1976 Main Attraction feat Hubert Laws. What a surprise ! It is his only recording for Kudu (CTI)

- I was glad to find the Catalyst Complete Recording reissue this year. It includes a nice demo of Jabali (1972 LP)

And I was not convinced by
- Wade Marcus own production (only one melody from his 1971 LP New Era "A time for us)
- Joe Farrell (only "I won't be back " on 1973 Upon This Rock LP)
- Horace Silver. All i can see is horny songs (heu...). Standard jazz, no real sweet melody. I like his recent work "Silver N Percussion" especially track "African Ascension" . But nothing crazy...

Bon that's it. I guess it is my way of saying THANKS to you and the blogosphere Simon, Ish, Oufar and every crazy guys (or women)who decide one day that MUSIC deserves more than being MP3 labelled

Parce que la musique est autre chose qu'un fichier MP3. Elle vit en vous, vous parle, vous renforce quand vous etes en bas et vous calme lorsque vous etes trop haut....

Keep Da Funk Alive

Of course, above list is only the funky side of those jazz cats

But for instance, Art Blaquey masterpiece is Athenagin is much more groovier than the one I mentioned. And Buhaina or Blues March are also some of a kind LPs

Same with Freddie Hubbard. My favorite lp is Gleam with George Cables on keys. Also Polar AC, High Energy, Windjammer...

Ok let me finish on a advice: Check Monk Higgins and Weldone Irvine album, featuring and arrangements. Jus t sublime for both cats
